i was updating the firmware from 1.2.1 to 2.0.0 when i lost power to the unit.

a couple minutes past the 'firmware upgrading' screen to be exact.
the screen still read, 'loading.. version 2.0.0"

now when i turn it back on its just a series of colored vertical lines that keep getting darker.
have i bricked the unit?
i JUST got the thing mailed here 2 days ago!

is this a permanent problem? can it be fixed somehow?

I have limited knowlege on this, but a similar thing happened to me when I was upgrading from the same fimware to 2.0. I didnt lose power but it did crash on that screen, when I turned it off and tried again it was fine though.

I think that if you get the boot screen its bricked, but fixable ;)

There's a great un-bricking guide somewhere ive seen but cant remember where - google it

I hope its ok :)

make sure you have fresh batts, or a power supply.
Make sure you still have the firmware files still on the card.
Turn on the GP2X and hold START and SELECT

The rest of the firmware update should take place.

will the screen change from the vertical lines?
or will it take a few minutes?

To be honest if you don't get the "GP2X Firmware" 1st boot screen the chances are your bootloader is now broken (i.e. unit bricked).

Fixing with the correct tools is not a big job to be honest.

If you have a BoB you can do it yourself (I really should finish off the damm HOWTO sometime) or there are several people who will fix it for you if you pay postage (I will and I know EvilDragon does if you bought the unit from GP2X.co.uk or .de).

So 2 choices, send it off or buy the bits and fix it yourself.
