NeoGeo X - A new NeoGeo Portable ( Dec 6 Release )

$800?! That has GOT to be a typo!

I hope they mean $80. Even 20 Games are not worth the $800 since today you can play many NeoGeo Games legaly over different Plattformes and Consoles. And the hardware of this little device seems to be nothing special at all.

Actually, I think the 800 is just extending the joke. They referance the high cost in this article, so it seems like the right price(at least based on what inforamtion they have).

Jason Cooper's comment:

"The NeoGeo console has always been a personal favourite of mine and I am delighted to be involved with the development of this new handheld console. We hope to re-ignite the excitement many of us felt 21 years ago, in a more affordable manner, to a much wider audience."

There's no way it could cost £500 in that case.

500 pounds for a console that has well emulated games on nearly every other handheld is suicide.

Here is the release notes

Specialist Blaze has struck a deal with SNK Playmore to bring NeoGeo X, a handheld version of SNK's beloved console, to the west.

MCV reports that the device, first revealed by Japanese website Famicom Plaza in January, will be released in the UK during the second quarter of this year. However, it will be a limited run, and could cost as much as £500.

It seems that the high price is correct according to thishttp://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/blaze-confirms-500-price-tag-for-neogeo-x/092841 I presume other neo geo games will be available to download in the future. It has an sd card slot.Still it's very pricey though but it looks like a nice console. As people say in the comments on that page most of these games can be emulated on a phone/caanoo or any such device.I think that the price will be lowered before release.

£500

Thats just toooo High for a handheld that does downloads imo

Its ridiculous and knowing snk the specs wont be anything to write home about

Maybe merge with and make title clearer?

NeoGeo X: a New Handheld Console

It's just bad journalism by MCV, apparently that price originated from someone in a Japanese forum saying that they would be willing to pay that much for it and it got translated over incorrectly.

Still a heavy price, they should at least include more newer NeoGeo Games, and NeoTurf Masters. :)
For years, and possibly still even now, AtGames' Mega Drive handhelds (AtGames' stuff is distributed by Blaze over here), which actually run emulation software on an ARM SoC, randomly crashed whilst using TV-out, randomly crashed or reset whilst not using TV-out, had blatantly incorrect audio (not even in the "good enough" sort of range - it's noticably wrong), and the home-console versions whilst free of crashing and freezing could not emulate scanline effects such as those used for water that does not cover the screen (the whole screen would be coloured with the underwater palette). The built-in games on these devices appear to have been specifically chosen because they showcased the enormous flaws the least.

If the NeoGeo X is one of their products, which I'm still guessing that it might be, then the emulation issues are probably what's to blame for the absence of particular games.
