Preorders Have Started. (Previously named starts in two hours)

I haven't followed the N64 emulation development closely, but I had the impression that the problem is still more one of compatibility than of raw power (though lots of raw power might in the end be needed for a compatible emulation).

Over the more recent past, there's probably been more fixes to compatibility issues than speed-up ones. Two problem games I test; Mario Tennis and Donkey Kong 64 are now very close to playable on my GHz unit, and other mostly-there games like F-Zero are now pixel perfect with no ugly glitches.

I don't know how well a CC unit copes in terms or raw power though.

I'm also hopeful that the Pyra will see a flourishing of Reicast, after that video Notaz did on the devboard a while back. Beyond dreamcast is possible too, but we'll have to see what the excellent devs contributing to this community manage to come up with. That'll probably take a lot of software work though, if driver issues prevent us from getting the native shader support needed for those emulators.

Can someone convince to order one by explaining to me what I can do more with a Pyra (other than mobile data) than with my original first batch Pandora?

For me, off the top of my head it's:
  • larger memory (less trouble running firefox)
  • larger screen (to help when reading rss feeds)
  • the lit keyboard for when it's darker
  • a normal debian distribution
  • more shoulder buttons, buttons in general and I think I'll like the newer keyboard arrangement better
  • GPS (I'm hoping I can use it like a garmin w/o the cell radio on. We'll see.)
  • I'm not buying for it, but I'll probably use the other sensors too. (Temp, humidity, etc)

This may be unrealistic, but how does Perfect Dark work out on your Pandora?

I loved that game. Strange, it's the first time someone other than me brings it up. I've always thought, I was it's only player. :)
I used to play with a bunch of people. It has enough fans that it was re-released. It is one of my favorite games. I still have some game saves from 16 years ago that I use.

Hm, my N64 is rotting at a friend's, but I just found Perfect Dark in the cabinet. Is there a way to use it with a Wii U? :)

Nope, but if you have a retrode and an adaptor, you can read it to use on emulators. If you go the Nintendo only route, I'm afraid they'll want you to pay again (if they even sell it - I'm not sure with it being a Rare game that they have the rights).

Nice to know, thanks. But I guess for the two cartridges I have laying around it wouldn't be worth it.

According to the graph, much of the total increase over the past two and a bit days has been down to US 4G preorderers. This is evidenced by the fact that US 4G preorders are now closer to 2/5 (40%) of the EU 4G stat, rather than the 1/3 (33.3%) it used to hover around.

What total of (Pre-orders+pre-preorders) do we need before ED runs a first batch ?
