Whats your favourite use of the Pandora?

Can you wierdos take your wank-fodder chat elsewhere?
Sure but "Weird" are only and always the "other" (boring) people, don't forget. ;)

No, I want tentacles!
I've heared that some people even eat poor tentacles and call that "Paella".

And that gentlemen is how you hijack a thread with furries and tentacles. Well done.
Yes, Highjacking happens sometimes faster than you may think and often even unintended. ^^" At least we have a tolerant community that does not instantly calls the Spanish Inquisition.

I warned ahead of time this was a casual discussion. However that being said I think the pyra will be better suited for porn.

Yea yea lets all take that "console love" not THAT literally OK?

Thats the point i have to leave this community, silently walking backwards away and never ever come again.

The actual point at the beginning was that the Pandora/Pyra is actualy to small for "such stuff". ;)

To get back on topic, I waited years for the TV cable for my Pandora, then I've got it but actualy, the analog-only TV out did not really fullfilled my expectations. I tested some games, some movies etc. It works, but often you first need to make adjustments when it comes to other aspect ratios than 4:3 or 16:9. And without even S-Video on my TV it's not that great to watch Movies from an analog source onto an Digital HD TV.

It may work well for Retro-Gaming but even then, I had trouble to get the colours right (Cinch). At least I didn't noticed a delay, luckily my TV has a "Game Mode". I also thought it may be a good combination when using the NDS Emulator to have a real 2. screen. This setting works technicaly pretty good but it's actualy not very practical.  At least it is not comfortable.  This will not change with the pyra I guess, the NDS is a 2 Screen Device with a fixed array of screens which can't be transfered comfortably onto a single Screen or a TV and the Device Screen, sadly.

BUT I hope the Pyra will have a propper digital TV out where I have a really good image quality to really use the Device on the big Screen. :)

So, does this count as "On-TOPIC"?

It does not. You just said what you do NOT with it.

I soldered one just a while ago, the image quality itself is extremely good but the colors are horrible here.

I have a strange black noise in red areas for example. That is my TV but i noticed that GREATLY varies on different screens, the other ones are not sharp/lag or whatever, its a shame. I do use it for playstation sometimes tho.

Oh yea i have not answered, my favourite use:

Card reader.

Why oh why are all my SD card readers broken?

I sayed what was my plan to use the Pandora for. However, the plan was obsolete when the TV cable finaly arrived. :D At the moment, I only use the Pandora for web browsing when I am in my room on my TV couch (My PC is in another Room due lack of space). And yes, I also have no working SD-Card Readers anymore, they somehow get broken magicaly after some time. So the Pandora is the only device to read my SD cards at the moment, not the most elegant way of course.

I play mostly games on it (dos box - ps1 - duke nukem 3d - return to castle wolfenstein) and a little bit internet surfing :D

There is a Tarot card reader application? Where? Where?

But back on topic:

  • I mostly download youtube movies/videoclips/presentations/, and watch them offline.
  • I once used the flashlight app as a makeshift bicicle frontlight (thnx _wb_!) (the police here in the Netherlands is nice, they wont shoot you for walking on the road, but the fines are pretty high)
  • I have the offline perl documentation, and use pygrep to search it, when I'm offline programming. (also use that to search the bible, as I never could get the official applications working)
  • Just like my wallet, I just grab it before I leave the house. Even if Im not using it.
  • At work, the work laptops are offlimits to usb sticks, funny non-work related pages, etc. So I use that to view a link occasionally.  Colleagues of course use their smartphones for that.  Still, the screen IS bigger, brighter and better than that of smartphones (at least, most of them)
  • As a makeshift entertainer not only for kids, but also adults like to see "that strange DS". For double strangeness, I now have a portable USB powered plasmaball connected to it.
  • and tinkering. Checking all new pnd's, connecting it as a makeshift webserver, or testing some client/server apps with my main computer. (unfortunately, I forgot to save some scripts before the fullflash of the previous firmware, but when connected to my intranet, it tried to sshfs. Now-a-days, I just shutdown and swap the SD card)

And the occasional use as a hammer.... kidding! (I saw you cringe :) )

Using Gparted to format and setup SC cards and then using the Pandora to download and write image files to the SD cards.

I can't tell you how many times this has saved me since my card reader went tits up.

I also use the Pandora to recharge USB devices like my ecig or phone on the go.

Plus all the usual uses of course ;)

I hadn't planned on using the Pandora this way but using it as an on-the-go energy backup for my phone etc. has actually been very helpful, and especially with a spare battery! Long cycle rides with my phone as a GPS navigation computer is now easier.

i had it connected to a cheapmonitor, like some kind of console, except console and controller are one unit.

was fun i til i proke the video out cable, need to buy a new one, damn

For those people actually using this as a netbook replacement, or for things that seemingly would require an external keyboard...how on earth do you have it setup?

Personally, I'd love to find better use of mine.  I'm pretty strained for uses, which is really unfortunate since I do like the OP so much.

Not sure I've ever felt the need for an external keyboard for many uses... lugging one around negates the portability of the Pandora and I've gotten used to the Pandora keyboard for the most part.. I've done a ton of document writing on the Pandora with LibreOffice.  At home I do have an 3 port USB hub with Ethernet port hitched to a keyboard and mouse hooked up to my TV..

I'm using my Pandora more and more as a development machine - lately its been a portable node/luvit host, which is just so much fun I can't handle it .. ;)
