beefy kernel update

I have a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR 950Q with the Auvitek AU8522 chip in it, and mplayer does this:

Not able to lock to the signal on the given frequency, timeout: 30
dvb_tune, TUNING FAILED
ERROR, COULDN'T SET CHANNEL 3: Failed to open dvb://MPT-2

It does this for all channels in my channels.conf file, all of which work on my laptop.

At least my stick is detected now though, and it TRIES to work.
You'll need to post dmesg output.

After patching I've tried at least a dozen games that use SDL without issues, is there a specific game giving you issues _wb_?

OK, here it is:

Unfortunately I can't now, as it's already in a code tag, and there's no space at the bottom to put the close spoiler tag outside the code tag. Putting it inside doesn't work.

If you run "upgrade pandora OS", you'll get a larger than usual kernel update.

Ligachamp asked for some USB TV stick drivers, so I've built media_build.git, which gives many media drivers from ~3.16-3.17 kernel release. These now come together with our 3.2 kernel.

Woha! That sounds great! :D I didn't think you might have even much time to spend on this as I'm no one special ^^" but now, just wow and thanks! :) Gotta try it this weekend!

OK, here it is:

First of all, a "dmesg | tail -n 50" would have been enough ;)

What belongs to the firmware errors: Could you check if there is placed a firmware that works for this stick in the /lib/firmware folder? It seems to not load any firmware...

Yeah missing firmware is probably the problem, it's just not reporting which file.. There is also symbol version mismatch, which is my fault, sort of.

I've pushed out another update, try updating the OS again. I've also packaged media firmware that comes with media_build to linux-firmware-media, so try installing it (sudo opkg install linux-firmware-media). Then start the USB host.

If it still doesn't work, post dmesg output again.

Oh wow that works perfect! I only get one channel cause the other four are HD, but the one channel is very nice, thank you so much!

Hi there,

I have no particular reason to think it's related to the update, except that it never happened before.

I have the same problem, but after a full reflash to 1.71.

sudo depmod or sudo depmod -ae and reboot didn't help

Whoops!  Did the update and now touchscreen stops working.  Also, can't seem to enable USB Host, Bluethooth, and run PNDs neither.

Should be hopefully fixed now, but I don't have access to any pandoras to test, so it would be nice if somebody chacked if it helped.

The fix will only affect those who haven't ran the update yet, those who already did need to run "sudo depmod" manually and reboot.

See what the output of 'uname -r' and 'ls /lib/modules' is. If those versions don't match you'll get those symptoms. You can usually fix it by renaming the modules folder and rebooting.

As to how you got to such a situation, that remains to be discovered.

3.2.57

and

2.6.27.57-omap1 3.2.57 3.2.64

After renaming to modules2 and rebooting, the newly created modules folder contains 3.2.57 only.

And the problems remain :(

Hmm, try typing 'lsmod' in a terminal. It should list the loaded modules. I'm not sure why it isn't loading them automatically if the folder name and kernel version matches - assuming that's the problem.

Edit: Oh, sorry, I didn't mean rename '/lib/modules/' to '/lib/modules2'. That'll definitely stop it loading any kernel modules at boot. Rename it back to '/lib/modules/'. The kernel modules should be inside that in a folder called '3.2.57' and you could try renaming '2.6.27...' as that, but I suspect 2.6 kernel modules won't work that well in a 3.2 kernel, so in fact you're missing the appropriate kernel modules somehow.

Edit2: We've been on a 3.x kernel for ages now. What version did you upgrade from? It shouldn't matter if you did a full reflash as you state, but if you did I don't see how any old files are remaining. I wonder if you tried to do an update from a really old OS version, where the OS updater was broken in interesting and unusual ways.
