Stylus: Black Or Chrome

black or chrome?

Material is more important to me than color, so I chose chrome, but if I had the choice I'd want a black metal stylus.

I voted for black, but now i change my vote. Steel ftw!

Possibly the first time I have ever voted in anything where my vote could make a difference.

How sad is that?

(Oh, and chrome, obviously. Imagine you saw the two in the shops for the same price, no contest...)

I can't really vote in this poll since the options are both not what I would prefer. I want a metal stylus, but either black or dark/black chrome. Black chrome would probably be my preference.

That sold it to me as well ;)

As I am sure a titanium stylus would be out of the question, my vote would be for a black hard anodized aluminum stylus.
Black hard anodizing on aluminium... I wouldn't recommend that, we have issues with that process (I work in the space industry) and this type of anodizing goes off fairly easily; maybe depends on the substrate aluminium grade used though.

Chrome here please.
I think the :pandora1: will look better with something else other than just all black. It will also feel better and last longer too.
Plastic stylus's just don't seem to feel right for me.

EDIT: There's also the fact that different colour pandoras might be made later on and the chrome one will go well with any colour :)

As long as they fit neatly enough into the condole itself, it shouldn't make all that much difference? Granted I've also an Archos 605 (which I think has the same screen as the Pandora), and it's all easy enough to use with the supplied plastic stylus, unless you try your best to lose it in the first week, as I almost managed.... ;)

Personally, i prefer i chrome heavy metal stylus, with black plastic over, exposing 2+ rims of crome ie
_ _ _ _
<_///////////////////////_///_//_/

_
basically the ///////// is the black plastic cover and the /_/ is the exposed chrome rim

if its to expensive, id wont black HEAVY METAL
and if for some reason thats not possible then the chrome HEAVY METAL

cant emphasise how important it is that you actually feel this thing in your hand

I completely agree. Voting for a lesser quality item based on color alone just seems asinine.

First off, considering the established preference for using high quality, if hard to stock, items for the Pandora production line, the "metal one" seems to fit in better. However from the link provided by Squidge, it becomes apparent that the individual supplying (read: custom manufacturing) the Metal Styli (http://www.hammill.demon.co.uk/), has ceased production. So where are these Styli coming from Squidge?. Not from Luke Sky... Mark Hammill. I would "prefer" the quality piece to go with my quality handheld, so if it where up to me, I would choose something good, but easily obtainable.

Drops two cents into the bucket.

With further perusal of the Metal Styli site, you can find this " Metal Styli officially ceased trading at the beginning of 2005.

I currently have no intention of launching the company again but would be willing to produce large batches to order if any companies are interested.

Custom products can be made for specialist markets such as metal detectable styli for the food industry.

Some models we have made featured surgical steel one piece body and tip construction and lanyard holes for as little as £2 per unit."

Actually registered for this very question.

The stylus just has to be metal. Nothing beats a good,
heavy piece of cold steel in your hand. The Nintendo's
plastic stylus is OK'ish, but i want royally good.

As mentioned above, black metal stylus > all

if no black availible, give us any color, but make it metal.

Is it really the Mark Hammill? Hell i adore ye olde
Star Wars flickers.

Greetings from Germany

They shoudl save that money for other things than an expensive stylus. I'll use my own stylus so it doesn't matter.

Let me mathematically figure this out...

Black + Metal = :D
Shiny + Metal = :)
Black + Plastic =
Shiny + Plastic =

anything (else) + Plastic = :(
anything (else) + Metal =

*Does Random math*
yes, metal is the winner.

I'm surprised no one has pointed out that the black one in the picture is in fact a metal stylus as well. From the looks of it (considering I have two of these here at home) it's the stylus from the Zodiac2. Not a bad stylus IMO either... I just hope the Pandora will have a better way to hold it than the Zodiac2 did.

A metal stylus would be awesome, but despite that, I'm choosing plastic.
Here's my reasoning:
  • Cheaper to replace if lost.
  • Single molded piece, actually making it more robust.
Metal styli still have a plastic tip, and that has to be attached to the metal with some form of tiny join (glue/screw thread). I inevitably drop them on occasion, and on both the metal styli I've had, the plastic tip has eventually snapped off. I've never had a plastic stylus break.
  • Less of a security concern.
It's stupid, but as one of the commenters on the community blog pointed out, a pointed metal rod like that might not make it through airport security. I wouldn't want my stylus confiscated just before a flight.
  • And trivially, black would look nicer.

Truth be told, I use my tapwave zodiac stylus for my GP2X and the zodiac atm, it's quite a nice stylus (light and doesn't get too cold as some metals do)

I still have a Metal Stylii for my Zodiac 2, reviewed it yonks ago for GamingHeadlines. They're awesome, and very purdy. Mine's in gunmetal with a red tip, though.

It's also the tethered version, with a screw-off end that reveals a pin for resetting the zodiac... something you have to do pretty often (aha). The same thing would be very effective for the Pandora, if it screwed off and revealed a little crosshead screwdriver.
